In support of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) week, the City of Acworth is partnering with the Cobb CDBG Program Office to host the 2014 Cobb CDBG Day at Roberts School this Thursday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. The program will last approximately 30 minutes and will feature Mayor Tommy Allegood and Alderman Tim Houston. Attendees will learn more about the city's use of CDBG funds over the last 15 years and the history of the Roberts School Facility. Over the last fifteen years the CDBG Grant has funded several significant quality of life improvements for the city. Projects such as the Roberts School renovation and the development of the trail system connecting Cowan Road to School Street were completed with CDBG funding. Next on the Horizon, will be the Logan Farm Park expansion. The improvement will be made near the intersection of Cherokee Street and Taylor Street. The park development will feature expanding parking, a playground, restroom, open play space, and a circular walking track that will connect to the existing trail system.
The Community Development Block Grant [CDBG] Program is a flexible, income-driven program that provides states and local governments with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Since 1974, the CDBG program is one of the longest continuously run programs at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development [HUD]. The CDBG program provides annual grants on a formula basis to over one thousand local governments and States. The overarching goal of the CDBG program is to develop viable communities by providing decent housing, a suitable living environment, and to expand economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.
