Aldermen Recognize Individuals at June 21 Meeting

Mayor Allegood acknowledged members of the Amateur Radio Club, including Aldermen Tim Richardson and Bob Weatherford. Alderman Richardson read and presented a proclamation to the members in recognition of the City of Acworth proclaiming June 18-24 as "Amateur Radio Appreciation Week." Licensed amateur radio operators who were present at the meeting, were commended for their services to provide emergency communications during hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, fires and other catastrophes. They also provide communications for the American Red Cross, the National Weather Service, the Department of Homeland Security Citizen Corps, the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International, the National Communications System, and the Salvation Army. Amateur radio operators will gather in Acworth and across the nation to demonstrate their emergency communications preparedness during the annual American Radio Relay League 'Field Day' exercise to be held June 23 through June 24. Acworth Citizens are encouraged to recognize amateur radio operators for their many contributions to the continued safety of our community.
