Aldermen Recognized Individual at December 06 Meeting
The Mayor and Board of Aldermen recently recognized the Acworth Football and Cheerleading Association for wrapping up another successful year! The Northwest Georgia Youth Football League’s 2012 season recently came to a close. The Division One NWGYFL Super Bowl was held on Saturday, November 17 at North Cobb High School and the Division Two NWGFYL Super Bowl was held on Saturday, November 10 at Halbrooks Field at the Acworth Sports Complex. The Acworth Warriors were well represented at both Super Bowls. Out of the 13 possible league championships, Acworth won eight and there were eight Acworth Teams competing for Super Bowl titles this year!
The six year old division one team coached by Jeff Albright, defeated the Douglasville Tiger Cubs by a score of 33 to 0 finishing the season with a 13 and 0 record; the seven year old division one team, coached by James Albright, defeated the Hiram Hornets by a score of 31 to 0, finishing the season with a 12 and 0 record; the eight year old division one team, coached by Derrick Allen, defeated the Hiram Hornets by a score of 27 to 6, finishing the season with a 13 and 0 record, and the ten year old division one team, coached by Nathan Halbrooks, defeated the South Cherokee Redskins by a score of 47 to 6, and finished the season with a 13 and 0 record.
At the division two level, the five year old division two team, coached by Johnathan Brown, defeated the Douglasville Tiger Cubs by a score of 25 to 7, and finished the season with an 11 and 0 record, the seven year old division two team, coached by Sean Anderson, defeated the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs by a score of 6 to 0, and finished the season with an 9 and 1 record, the eight year old division two B team, coached by Tryon Byrd, defeated the Hiram Hornets by a score of 20 to 13, and finished the season with an 11 and 0 record, and the ten year old division two team, coached by Bill Stroud, defeated the Hiram Hornets by a score of 35 to 8, and finished the season with an 11 and 0 record.
The six year old DI team, the seven year old DI team, and the eight year old DI team all finished runner up in the State Championships as well.
Mayor Allegood acknowledged Coach David Stephenson of North Cobb High School who introduced participants of the Warrior Way 5K that was recently held on September 1. Mr. Stevens advised that the North Cobb High School seniors were members of the highest graduating class with an average GPA of 3.6. Mr. Stevens presented a check for 20% of the proceeds collected to the Mayor on behalf of the City. The Warrior Way 5K kickoff event took place at the recent Love the Lake Festival on Labor Day Weekend. This is an annual fundraiser for the Cross Country team, which part of the proceeds is donated for Cauble Park improvements.
Alderman Bob Weatherford, on behalf of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, presented a plaque to Acworth Police Department Captain Tony Bailey in appreciation for his hard work and dedication in coordinating the Annual Covering the Bases event. Captain Bailey was also previously recognized by the Acworth Police Department for his participation and efforts.
