This is a non-competitive program to help three and four year olds develop basic
skills for sports programs in the future. The program gives children a chance to
explore a variety of different sports all in one program such as soccer, t-ball, and
basketball. Camp is every Thursday for 9 weeks in the spring. For more

It has been a longstanding tradition for the department to host the fifth graders at
Acworth Elementary for a simulated day of summer camp. Volunteers from the
city staff take the children around to participate in activities such as a water
balloon toss, obstacle course, relay races, wiffleball, kickball, soccer, and much
more. The event is co-sponsored by the Kennesaw Optimist Club.
In the spring, the Parks and Recreation Department hosts the first round of the
Pepsi Pitch, Hit, and Run competition at the Acworth Sports Complex. This is a
free program that provides girls and boys ages 7 to 14 an opportunity to
showcase their baseball and softball skills. Winners of the local competition may
potentially advance to display their skills at an Atlanta Braves home game and a
chance to compete in the national competition!
Also, in the fall, the department partners with Acworth Elementary to host
the NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition specifically for the elementary
school's physical education classes. This is a free skills competition that
provides girls and boys ages 8 to 15 an opportunity to showcase their
football skills. Winners of this competition move on to a sectional
competition and have the opportunity to advance to exhibit their skills
between the third and fourth quarter of an Atlanta Hawks home game and a
chance to compete in the national competition.
The department partners with the local school system to implement a program
which targets unprivileged children between the ages of five and sixteen. The
children attend field trips all over Georgia one Saturday a month between the
months of December and May. The program is funded by an anonymous
benefactor. For more information about to program or to volunteer contact Frank
