Camp Acworth began in 1999. The summer program is based out of the Acworth Beach House. The camp has eight, one week sessions. The camp accommodates 110 children per week between the ages of six and eleven. Children enjoy activities such as arts and crafts, hiking, canoeing, team sports, swimming, and much more. Each Friday the children go on a field trip. A special feature of the camp is the Aqua Jump. The Aqua Jump is a trampoline with a slide that floats in the water. Normal Camp Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Extended camp hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The rate for extended care is $15 per week. This camp is geared towards early teens between the ages of twelve to fourteen. The summer program is based out of the Acworth Beach House. This camp has eight, one week sessions. A special feature of the camp is a community service project. The campers are responsible for developing a project over the eight weeks of camp and following through with it. Normal Camp Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Extended camp hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The rate for extended care is $15 per week.One session of camp is $75.00 for city residents and $85.00 for non-residents. The summer is full of opportunities for your child to brush up on the fundamentals of several sports. The department hosts two baseball camps, two football camps, a softball camp, and a cheerleading camp. All camps are extremely affordable. These camps run from mid June to early August. The league is a partnership with the Special Needs Development Group, Inc. that provides baseball opportunities to children with mental and physical disabilities between the ages of 5 and 21 in North Georgia. This is a non-competitive program to help three and four year olds develop basic skills for sports programs in the future. The program gives children a chance to explore a variety of different sports all in one program such as soccer, t-ball, and basketball. These camps are held througout the year. It has been a longstanding tradition for the department to host the fifth graders at Acworth Elementary for a simulated day of summer camp. Volunteers from the city staff takes the children around to participating in activities such as a water balloon toss, obstacle course, relay races, wiffleball, kickball, soccer, and much more. The event is co-sponsored by the Kennesaw Optimist Club. |
Each year in May the department hosts the first round of the Pepsi Pitch, Hit, and Run competition at the Acworth Sports Complex. This is a free skills competition that provides girls and boys ages 7 to 14 an opportunity to showcase their skills. Each year in September the department partners with Acworth Elementary to host the Pepsi Punt, Pass, and Kick competition specifically for the elementary school's physical education classes. This is a free skills competition that provides girls and boys ages 8 to 15 an opportunity to showcase their football skills. The department partners with the local school system to implement a program which targets unprivileged children between the ages of five and sixteen. The children attend field trips all over Georgia one Saturday a month between the months of December and May. The program is funded by an anonymous benefactor. Jr. NBA / Jr. WNBA Skills Challenge |
Begin the early stages of being the next great Olympian! The Acworth Parks and Recreation Department hosts a local Jr. Olympic Skills Competition each Spring. It is free national grassroots skill competition that provides, both girls and boys ages 8 to 13, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities. Acworth's local competition will allow participants to display their ability in basketball, soccer, and track & field. Jr. Olympic Skills Competition encourages youth participation in sports and emphasizes fair and friendly competition. You can participate in any or all of the individual sports and advance through the three levels of competition, including Local, Regional, and National Finals. Jr. Olympic Skills Competition |
Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Skills Challenge is a national skills program for boys and girls ages 7 to 14. This challenge provides children the opportunity to showcase their shooting, dribbling, and passing skills. The Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA Skills Challenge is a free program. Participants have the opportunity to advance through three (3) levels of competition, including the National Finals at NBA City in Orlando, Florida.
