Brian Bulthuis has been the City Manager of Acworth Georgia since October 1996. Before moving to Georgia, Mr. Bulthuis served as City Manager in Mt. Morris, Michigan for six years and Assistant City Manager in Whitehall, Michigan for three years. Mr. Bulthuis earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University.
Mr. Bulthuis is an active member in the Acworth Business Association, a 2007 graduate of Leadership Cobb and a 2002 graduate of the Cobb Chamber Honorary Commanders. He currently serves on the Special Needs Development Corporation Board of Directors as its Treasurer. He has also served on the North Metro Technical College Foundation Board of Directors and the Acworth Business Association Board of Directors.
Mr. Bulthuis has one son, Brandon, and they attend North Star Church. Outside of work Mr. Bulthuis enjoys playing golf and has coached youth football for over 10 years in the Acworth Football & Cheerleading Association.
Mr. Bulthuis is proud to serve the citizens of Acworth. He believes we have one of the most efficient local governments in the state because of the great employees that work for the City and that together our mission is to provide the best services we can to our residents and business owners.
Appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, the City Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer of the City. The City Manager has the responsibility to direct the day-to-day operations of the City, as well as serve as the chief policy advisor to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
Some of the City Manager's major responsibilities are:
- Preparing and submitting the annual budget to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
- Preparing agendas for Board of Aldermen Meetings.
- Making recommendations concerning personnel needs, operations, regulations and ordinances.
- Responding to citizens regarding inquiries, problems or complaints.
- Appointing department heads with approval of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
