City Clerk - Regina Russell
Appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, the City Clerk
is responsible for recording the Board of Aldermen’s official actions in
minutes, maintaining contracts and agreements, preparing and processing
correspondence and reports, overseeing Liberty Hill Cemetery and preparing the
city newsletter. The clerk is the custodian of the City Seal and is responsible
for conducting the Municipal Elections. The City Clerk’s office is also
responsible for supervision for the following personnel, Court Services, Personnel Administrator,
Community Relations Coordinator, Deputy City Clerk, human resources, bids, collection of hotel/motel taxes.
Liberty Hill Cemetery
Liberty Hill Cemetery is located on Cemetery Street off North Main Street. This
cemetery is owned and operated by the City of Acworth under the supervision of
the City Clerk and the Parks and Recreation Director. The cost is $500 per plot for city residents and $750 per
plot for non-city residents. For further information or to purchase a lot,

Property Taxes
Property taxes are billed and collected for the City of Acworth through the Cobb
County Tax Commissioner’s office (770-528-8600) located at 100 Cherokee
Street, Marietta, Georgia. Taxes are due October 15 of each year.
Exemptions must be filed between January 1st and June 1st and are all done
through the Cobb County Tax Commissioner’s office, in person or by mail. Forms
are available at that office, or you can find them on the Commissioner’s
web site: www.cobbtax.org. Besides the Homestead Exemption, there are two other
exemptions you should be aware of:
- School Tax Exemption– for residents of Cobb County
who are age 62 on or before January 1st of the year you apply.
- City Tax Exemption – Homeowners who are disabled on or before January 1, and whose annual NET income (including income of the spouse but not including income received as a result of the disability; e.g., disability retirement) does not exceed amount of the exemption for the immediately preceding taxable year for income tax purposes are entitled to an exemption equal to the amount that applies to disabled residents of the county. You must furnish proof of income and a doctor's certificate stating that you are disabled and that the disability is likely to remain permanent.
Terms for elected officials are four years, with elections being held every two years. The candidate receiving a majority of votes shall be declared elected. If a candidate does not receive a majority of the votes, a run-off election will be held. To be eligible for office in the City of Acworth, a person must be 21 years of age and meet the requirements of a qualified voter in the City of Acworth as prescribed by State law and must have been a resident of the City of Acworth for 12 months. Elected officials take office at the first regular meeting in January after the election.
The City of Acworth has one polling place used for City elections and three polling places used for county,
state and federal elections. Please check your voter's registration card for your designated polling place,
or contact Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration at 770-528-2300. Voters must be registered 30 days
prior to an election to be eligible to vote. Voter's registration applications may be obtained at the various public buildings: City Hall,
Library, Cobb County Government Service Centers and Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration.
