Customer Service
The Customer Service Department of the City of Acworth, located in the parking lot entrance of City Hall in Downtown Acworth, provides support to customers of Acworth Power and Sanitation, and is responsible for billing, taking payments, processing new service requests and resolving problems. They also administer the city's business license program. It consists of a supervisor, a billing clerk, five customer service reps and two meter techs.
Forms of payment accepted are cash, check and credit cards. As a convenience to our customers, we offer Electronic Draft, which automatically deducts your Acworth Power and/or Sanitation balance from your checking or savings accounts every month on the due date. This eliminates late fees and is extremely easy to sign up. Please contact our Customer Service Department at 770-917-8903 if you would like to participate. Our friendly staff is available to assist you Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. There is also a Drop Box located outside our entrance available for your checks or money orders that is checked once a day at 8:00 am, except on due dates, when it is emptied at 5:00 pm.
How do I set up new service?
You may either come into the Customer Service Center located in City Hall, or call
us at 770-917-8903 between the hours of 8:00 and 5:00 Monday –Friday.
How do I establish sanitation services?
To establish new sanitation service, there is a $40 Deposit for each container, which holds 95 gallons. Each container is assigned a serial number, and records are kept to show which one is assigned to your address. Additional containers are available at a monthly minimal charge. Residential collection of household garbage and yard waste is one day a week, with commercial customers having an option of a 2nd weekly pickup at different rates. If you’re not sure of your street’s schedule for garbage and yard waste, please call the customer service office. Large items pickups are also available at an additional charge and are performed on Fridays. However, these must be scheduled ahead of time by calling the customer service office prior to the preceding Thursday.
Is there a deposit to establish new service?
Commercial Deposits are 2 times the monthly bill at that address. For residential power customers, there is a minimum $100.00 deposit. For a small transaction fee the customer can request a credit check and a passing score can allow deposit to be billed. For sanitation customers, the deposit is $40, which can be billed at the customer’s request. If a customer has both power and sanitation with the City, the total minimum deposit will be $140.00.
Can I make payment arrangements?
Payment arrangements can be made in writing at the Customer Service center if the customer
agrees to become current within 30 days. Arrangements can be made over the phone if the
customer agrees to become current within 5 business days. If an arrangement is broken, the
customer’s power will be disconnected and they will be ineligible for any more arrangements.
Do you offer budget billing?
Not at the present time.
Why am I required to have Acworth sanitation?
Per Sec. 78-3 of the Acworth City code, for the health, safety, and welfare of the
citizens of the city, all single family and two family dwellings shall be required to
have solid waste collection service provided by the city. All residents are required
to pay a monthly sanitation fee.
Does the City pick up large items?
Yes. Large items consist of furniture/appliances weighing over 50 lbs, and can be
scheduled for pickup by calling customer service at 770-917-8903. There is a $10
charge per item, which will appear on your next bill. Appliances containing refrigerant
must have it withdrawn and properly tagged by a certified technician before collection.
