K-9 Unit
The Acworth Police Department K-9 Unit is responsible for supporting field units in the apprehension of criminals and detecting concealed narcotics. The K-9 partners receive extensive training at Kennedy Space Center with the NASA security forces in Titusville Florida.
Currently the Acworth Police Department has one K-9 team. He is trained to detect the most common encountered narcotics, track suspects and track missing/endangered adults and juveniles. Our K-9 unit also conducts building and article searches. Our K-9 team is nationally certified through North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) and National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA).
Officer Jason LaRocque handles K-9 Bosco. Officer LaRocque has been with the Acworth Police Department since 2003 and assigned to the K-9 Unit since 2006.
Our K-9 handler takes his assigned dog home at the end of his shift, and the dog becomes a part of the family. In addition to scheduled shifts, our K-9 team is on-call 24 hours a day and is ready to respond to assist not only Acworth, but the needs of neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Our K-9 team interacts with the community with demonstrations at local elementary and middle schools. They also complete demonstrations for city functions and numerous civic organizations.
If you would like to schedule a K-9 demonstration with your school, civic group, or other function, please contact Officer Jason LaRocque at the Acworth Police Department (770) 974-1232.
In August of 2002 K-9 Marco and his handler were united for the first time to begin their tour of duty together. They participated in numerous educational and social events in the community where he was loved by all. Together they were responsible for the seizure of thousands of dollars in illegal narcotics and assets as well as numerous felony arrests. K-9 Marco was not only a faithful servant to the community, he was our friend.
K-9 Marco passed away on September 3, 2007.

K-9 Roxie was placed in service February 1997 until she was retired for medical reasons in August of 2002. K-9 Roxie served the community unselfishly and was responsible for thousands of dollars worth of illegal contraband being removed from the streets. After K-9 Roxie was retired she continued to live with her handler until she passed away in July of 2004.
We would like to extend our special thanks to both of these canines for their relentless efforts to keep our streets safer and free from illegal contraband.
