Old Jail

In a continuing effort to enhance the downtown area and preserve the history of the city, the Acworth Police Department announces undertaking the project of preserving the “Old Jail”. The facility, located at 4357 Senator Russell Ave, was constructed in 1935. It was last used as the Acworth Jail/Police Department in 1995. Since then, the Jail has housed the Downtown Development Authority and the Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority. The police department will oversee operations of the building with the idea of creating a downtown museum and community meeting facility.

The Acworth Police Department is asking that any residents of the area that might have items such as pictures or other police related memoralibilia that they would like to share with the police department, to bring those items to the Acworth Police Department. Pictures will be copied and returned to the owners if they so wish. All other items will be placed on display for future guests to view. Residents that may wish to donate items to the cause can contact Officer Jeff Rose of the Office of Community Affairs at 678-801-4073 or jrose@acworth.org.
