Tommy Allegood was raised in Atlanta, graduated for the University of Georgia, and he and his wife Carol have lived in the City of Acworth for the past 12 years.
Tommy was elected to the City Council/Board of Alderman in 1999 and was sworn in as Mayor of Acworth on January 3, 2002. He is in the middle of his second term as mayor, and says he plans to seek a third term. The city has experienced tremendous quality of growth and currently has a population of 24,000 people with almost 8,000 households. Mayor Allegood says he is proud of the great city team that has brought a level of quality of life unmatched by any other community. "The city team," he says, "is comprised of the best and most effective elected city government, a very qualified city manager and city staff and the most giving community of volunteers and citizens in any community in this country!"
Mr. Allegood’s varied business interests are historic property restorations that include The Old Mill Restaurant, property acquisition, development and the redevelopment of the old trailer park. He has built three historic craftsman-style neighborhoods in the city. His wife Carol is an artist, and they have four children and six grandchildren. They live in a 100+ year old historic home on Northside Drive that they have restored.
Together Tommy and Carol are working on the Arts Alliance, which promotes cultural arts featured at the new Art Gallery 4463 and Theatre on Main in downtown historic Acworth. Tommy’s vision is to work with the city team and see the downtown historic area transformed into a friendly "Virginia Highlands" style village with all types of dining, shopping, arts and crafts with the most innovative forms of pedestrian accessibility.
