The Horizon League provides children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in athletic events, develop lasting relationships among their peers, coaches, and parents and demonstrate to them that they are an important part of their community by creating an environment of inclusion for both the participants and their families.

The League is open to youth and young adults ages five and up. Teams are broken up by age groups. Games are non-competitive and each player on the roster gets on base before the opposing team gets to bat.

HORIZON EVENTS

Covering the Bases Gala
WebSaveDateThe Special Needs Development Group is excited to announce this year’s Covering the Bases fundraiser, a Gala held on November 14 at the Tanyard Creek Overlook (Acworth Community Center). Individual tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available. Reservations received before November 1st are eligible to win a Yeti cooler compliments of the North Cobb Rotary Club. Raffle drawing for the Yeti cooler will be held at the gala.

The Covering the Bases Gala tickets include a unique fine dining experience, charity auction, and jazz ensemble. Cocktail attire is required. The Gala is for adults, but onsite supervision for children and athletes, separate from the Gala, will be available at the Acworth Community Center and is included in the cost of your Gala ticket. Chick-fil-A dinner and activities will be provided. Attendees must register by November 1 to be eligible for onsite childcare.

As in years past, all proceeds from the Covering the Bases Gala benefit the Horizon League. Over the last eleven years, businesses and residents of Acworth have donated over $250,000 to this amazing league. Funds from this event help us to keep league costs down, replace/improve the quality of adaptive equipment, upgrade the quality/quantity of program uniforms, and increase the number of participants and programs offered.
It’s time to celebrate the many athletes that participate in the Horizon League’s programs and celebrate over 10 years of adaptive sports programming. Covering the Bases not only raises funds to advance its mission (to strive a better quality of life for children and adults with special needs), but it also raises awareness for our cause. This event would not be possible without the sponsorship of local companies and donations from supporters like you.  With your help, we will continue to see improvements for the special needs population.
